The three greatest ancient civilizations that have remarkable impact on our world are Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome and Ancient China. They started in the year of B.C and collapsed about thousand years ago. They have given us marvelous things and they are the legacies that framed our world today. Their great innovations and systems of governance that we can see commonly such as architecture had influenced our modern civilization greatly. They have passed 8 common features of civilization: Cities, Government, Religion, Job Specialization, Social Classes, Public Works, Art & Architecture and Writing, to us and now we have them with better quality.
Ancient Greece had cities like Athens and Sparta and we also have cities in our modern civilization like Jakarta. Ancient Greece, Rome and China had governments that produce goods and give protection to them and modern civilization also has governments, but its system is better. They had different religions and gods (Greek and Roman Myths) in different regions like modern world (Christianity, Buddhism). They also had different kinds of jobs like farmers and soldiers like now, but we have more variety of jobs now like engineers, etc. They had social classes based on their level and we now have social classes based on wealth. They also had public works for constructions like us. They had their own art and architectures like us (Statue of Liberty). Finally, they had writing system for communicating and calculating while we use writing for many other things.
We have developed from the ancient civilizations and we would not be here today without them. We must and will remember them forever as we should appreciate what they have given us.
Ancient Greece had rich and unique cultures and traditions. It influenced countries close to it such as Ancient Rome and Mesopotamia and even our world today. One of the most famous Greek cultures is Greek Literature. They adopted alphabet from other country and made it better by adding vowels (a,e,i,o,u) so it is easier to use [Pic 1]. The alphabets are still used today for English, Indonesian, French and other languages. What I am writing now are also alphabets. This relates to the global context: (Globalization and Sustainability) and concept: System, Ideology, Civilization and Culture. It connects with global context because their way of writing: alphabet has been globalized so most people in this world use it. It relates to concept: system because this is the writing system that is used and we still use it. It is related to ideology because their alphabet became the basic of the modern alphabets today. It relates to civilization because it is one of the features of civilization which is writing. Finally, it relates with culture because the alphabet was their culture of communicating and recording.
Ancient Greece had many city- states which mean that they had different types of governments. One of them is ‘democracy’ that city of Athens used. In democracy government, citizens vote for officials and leaders so it is basically a government ruled by citizens. This is the type of government that is present in the most countries in the world today (Except for North Korea!). We vote for new president and new prime minister when the period of a president or prime minister is over [Pic 3]. So, this explains that the system of governance in Greece had passed on to us. This connects with our global context: (Globalization and Sustainability) and concepts: Sustainability, Power, Civilization, Ideology and Governance. It connects with global context because that is their system of sustaining the civilization and it has been globalized so most countries today use it. It relates to Sustainability because Athens used the democracy government to be able to sustain and strengthen their civilization. It relates to Power because the citizens of Athens had the power or authority to vote for a leader. It is also related to Civilization because it had the government which is one of the 8 features of civilization. It is connected to Ideology because their democracy government became the idea of the modern government today. Finally, it is related to governance because they had their own system of government which is democracy government.
Ancient Rome had its remarkable impacts on our modern civilization, but it was also influenced by Ancient Greece. One of the most famous influences to us is Roman technology. Rome first got the idea of concrete road and the concrete roads survived more than thousand years. So, it explains that it is very good. The flushing toilet was also from Rome. These inventions are all still used today. Almost every road in the city is made up of concrete [Pic 2] and almost every toilet uses the flushing toilet. This explains that Roman technology had influenced us greatly. This connects with our global context and concepts: Culture and Ideology. It connects with global context because Roman technology had been globalized so most cities and buildings use them. It connects with Culture because these inventions are related to Roman life and their life is the culture. They invented the concrete road because they needed a strong road. There were 372 roads that connect to 113 provinces so they needed a strong road that lasts long. They invented flushing toilet because they treat toilet importantly so they developed more technology for toilet. Finally, it relates with Ideology because the inventions became the basic idea of modern flushing toilet and concrete road.

Ancient Rome had the government system with senators that control the government. The senators oversee the every project held by the government. The senators still exist today in many countries like USA and there are millions of senators in the world. Senators are essential for the countries because they control the laws and plan for most activities of the government for citizens. This explains that Ancient Rome has passed the important system of government to us. This connects with our global context and concepts: System, Power, Ideology and Sustainability. It connects to the global context because their type of government with senators had been globalized and it helped Ancient Rome and countries today to sustain and strengthen their civilization. It also connects with System because it is the system of their government and the civilization. It relates to Power because it shows that senators had power to control the government at that time and now. It also relates to Ideology because the Roman Government was the idea of the governments of many countries today. Finally, it is connected with Sustainability because Rome used that type of government to be able to sustain their civilization.
Ancient China had their own unique culture because of natural barriers surround China. It had many influences to our modern civilization, but the best influence is paper, in my opinion. The paper was first invented in China using cottons. It may be the simplest invention in the world, but it is also the greatest invention in the world [Pic 4]. The paper helped us to communicate fast, develop the writing system and record the history of a civilization. Without paper, the development of technology, writing and other things would have been very late and bad. We use paper every day, when we write something. Thus, China gave us the most wonderful gift for our life. This is connected to global context and concepts: Civilization and Ideology. It relates with global context because the paper had been globalized now and it help the civilization to sustain. They used paper so they wrote and recorded faster. So, the government used paper for discussion and for orders. In conclusion, they could sustain because the government communicated effectively and fast. This is also related to Civilization because the paper improved the writing system of China which is one of the 8 features of civilization. Finally, it is also connected to Ideology because the paper that China invented was the idea of modern papers today such as origami papers.
Overall, Ancient Greece, Rome and China had great impacts on our modern civilization with alphabets, democracy government, concrete roads, flushing toilet, government with senators and paper. We should always appreciate what we got from them and we should not forget them.
